The Life of a Twenty-Something...growing up.
This blog will take you through my post-collegiate life, as I embark upon a new career, and face different and often difficult challenges of becoming a young, independent, Pakistani woman in the United States.
It will chronicle my (hopefully short time) moving back home, how I am going to adjust to it after living away for four years....
this should be interesting.
first day of training
Hi!
Today was day one of training. I had to wake up at 6:30am so I could leave my house at 7:30am and get there by 8:30am. I stopped by Robeks on my way to work so I could get a smoothie, and then I headed over to Irvine! I got to the office around 8:49 after parking, so not that bad. It took me about an hour. Boy was I happy I was ON TIME. The MAIN managing partner, like the big boss, totally called out this guy because he was 15 minutes late—soo bad and embarassing for him! First day of training, and you’re late to class. Not good.
It was really interesting being in the class. We learned a lot of interesting things from a lady who had 4 years sales experience for both NYL and MetLife. She compared the two companies and just really seemed to have a LOT of love for NYL, which is so important. Her training made me far more comfortable…now only if I could STAY CONSCIOUS throughout it! I was so beyond tired. I obviously didn’t fall asleep, but I felt myself zoning out a lot. Not as focused as I wanted to be. I only got 4 hours of sleep last night! I just couldn’t fall asleep. After class was out at 5:30ish (and after paying $15 for parking!! wtf) I left work and took a nice long nap until about 8pm. I met my family for dinner since my cousin Farheen is going back to Florida tomorrow. I’m going to miss her! :)~
Anyway, I absolutely need to get fingerprinted tomorrow! I went during my lunch break today and it just did not work out unfortunately. They had this long wait that was impossible. I felt terrible because I remembered on my way to meet Nick to get lunch, but figured if I gave myself half an hour to get printed I would be fine. Boo to that.
So now I need to memorize this script by tomorrow I think, and it’s kind of hard!!! I have parts of it done.
Anyway, training is cool, it made me more excited about work, but waking up early is NOT FUN. at all. and not to mention, I’m anxiously waiting for NYL to pay me back what they are supposed to for all my licensing expenses, and I’m glad I am not the only agent who was wondering about that.
Also, I totally love the “team” I’m on! My managing partner is amazing, and the two other guys he hired are really cool. :) Yay.
So excited for SUCCESS!! :)
